The thunder of Brass Bands continues to parade as second lines for sacred somber funeral dirges, elegant red carpet soirees, high school and college hallways. More over it is greatly appreciated on the streets of  New Orleans, Uptown, Back-a-Town, Downtown, Front-a-Town or Pigeon Town.  It does not matter which ward you came from 9th ward, 2nd ward, or 13th ward, the sparkle of the Brass, and the sound of the drum will radiate from the culture, rhythm and roots of Congo Square to the French Quarters. This tradition thrives because it expresses the experiences of new generations without losing its identity as a distinctive, beautiful and durable musical art. For this, we celebrate those who continue the tradition of the Sounds of Brass.

The Asante Awards is a celebration of the pinnacles in creativity of peoples of African descent. It was formed out of the desire to celebrate the contributions that many citizens have made (with little to no recognition) by acknowledging, giving thanks (Asante), and presenting them with awards.
